The Candy Camper Story

Hi there, I'm Candy Campervan!

I began my journey in 2013 when Nick, my current owner, bought me from my second owner, Neil, who lived in Buxton. Neil was 19 when he bought me and cherished me for many years, taking me on adventures to festivals and camping trips. When I wasn't on the road, he kept me in a cosy barn — and amazingly I only accumulated 28,000 miles since my creation in 1972. However, thanks to my age and the dampness of the barn, I became tired and rusty, desperately needing a makeover.

Nick saw my potential and decided to give me new life. He stripped me down to my shell and Nick and his friend Andy spent two and a half years, in their spare time, cutting out rusty metal and welding in new steel. Finding parts for an old van like me was a challenge, so Nick had to fabricate many panels. Once my bodywork was ready for a fresh look, I went for a complete respray.

When I returned, Nick dedicated another three and a half years to refitting my interior and reconditioning my engine, gearbox and drivetrain. In total, it took six years for me to hit the road again, and the love and care didn't stop there.

Every nut, bolt, seal, bearing, flooring, upholstery, electrics, and accessory has been replaced with new parts. Where my original parts were reassembled, they have been lovingly restored. Major upgrades were also made to ensure I'm suited for modern roads, providing living and driving conditions that rival even the newest campervans.

I am now a fully restored, eye-catching historic campervan. I love being on the road during the summer months for holidays and shows across the UK. I attract a lot of attention and bring smiles to everyone I meet!
